ON.energy Signs Largest Dedicated Transformer Deal in the U.S. for Data Center and Renewable Applications

The agreement comes at a time when U.S. data center power demand is projected to reach tens of gigawatts this decade, with AI clusters emerging as the fastest-ramping, highest-density electrical loads ever connected to the grid.

Under the agreement, ON.energy selected Prolec GE to manufacture and deliver three-phase pad-mount transformers purpose-built for ON.energy’s medium-voltage architecture. These units will be deployed across grid-connected and fully behind-the-meter AI data center campuses and incorporated into ON.energy’s technology to stabilize AI workloads, enforce controlled ramp rates, and protect both the data center and the grid during voltage disturbances.

“AI data centers are becoming the largest and most dynamic electrical loads in the world. To deploy them responsibly at scale, we need partners who can deliver not only at volume but at the highest standard of quality,” said Dax Kepshire, President of ON.energy’s Data Center division. “This agreement ensures we have the infrastructure needed to continue deploying grid-safe data centers at the pace the market requires.”

This project marks a major milestone in the development of grid-safe AI-ready data center systems that stabilize fast ramping loads and support predictable interconnection performance. With reliable equipment and infrastructure, ON.energy continues to enable customers to build AI campuses that interconnect faster, operate more reliably, and integrate more responsibly with the grid.
