COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt scored a brilliant century to lead England to 253-9 in 50 overs after being sent in to bat by Sri Lanka in their Women's Cricket World Cup match on Saturday.

Sciver-Brunt's 117 runs came in as many deliveries and was her 10th century in one-day internationals.

England, which lost the toss, made a promising start before Amy Jones (11) was run out with the total on 24.

Tammy Beaumont scored 32 off 29 before miscuing a catch to Harshitha Samarawickrama off left-arm spinner Sugandika Kumari.

Heather Knight and Sciver-Brunt shared a 60-run partnership for the third wicket off 73 deliveries before Knight was caught by Dewmi Vihanga off spin bowler Inoka Ranaweera.

Sciver-Brunt added 40 runs for the fourth wicket with Sophia Dunkley (18).

In the 35th over, Ranaweera struck twice in five deliveries to leave England 168-6 but the English captain added partnerships with the lower order to give her side a comfortable total.

She brought up her century with a six over extra-cover off Kumari and hit three boundaries in the last over of the innings before being dismissed in the penultimate delivery. She hit two sixes and nine boundaries in all.

Ranaweera took 3-33 in 10 overs. Udeshika Prabodhani and Kumari took two wickets each.

England is second in the tournament standings with four points from victories over South Africa and Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka is second-from-last after losing to India in the eight-nation tournament opener and taking one point after its match against Australia was abandoned without a ball bowled because of rain.
