Kevin and Cristyne begin with a preview of their upcoming Radio Night Live broadcast from Mario’s on Arthur Avenue, featuring Italian food, neighborhood history, and special guests including Dominic Chianese. The conversation then turns toward the approaching 25th anniversary of 9/11 and the importance of preserving the stories of New York’s recovery for generations too young to remember the attacks.

Former New York Governor George Pataki joins the show to discuss his documentary, Out of the Darkness: The Rebuilding of Ground Zero After 9/11. He recalls the enormous challenge of restoring Lower Manhattan physically and economically while rebuilding confidence in New York as a place to live, work, and visit. From the “I Love New York” campaign to the creation of the Tribeca Film Festival, city leaders and New Yorkers worked together to bring life back downtown.

Pataki also reflects on the remarkable cooperation among city, state, and federal officials immediately following the attacks. Despite competing ideas about Ground Zero’s future, he believed the site needed to honor those who died while also demonstrating New York’s resilience by rebuilding. He shares how that vision ultimately helped transform Lower Manhattan into the vibrant, 24-hour neighborhood it is today.

New York Yankees president Randy Levine then joins Kevin and Cristyne to explore baseball’s role in helping the city heal. From Yankees players visiting grieving families and first responders to President George W. Bush’s memorable World Series first pitch, baseball offered New Yorkers moments of comfort, unity and normalcy. Levine also previews a special Yankees-Mets game commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

The episode closes with a tribute to Dolly Parton and the joy, kindness and music she brought to generations of fans. Kevin and Cristyne share favorite songs, memorable stories and a fitting weekend challenge: bring a little more Dolly-style kindness and joy into the world.
