Motherhood is one of the most beautiful gifts God created. It’s the gift of life and love. As a mother of five, some by birth and some through adoption, I know well the depth of a mother’s love.

With motherhood comes a heart that holds both the good and the difficult moments of being a mom. There are moments when pride soars higher than it ever has as a mom sees her child reach milestones and succeed. Then there are moments that hurt deeper than ever before. When a mother watches her child hurt, she hurts too. It can sometimes feel like the child is an extension of herself, and in some ways that is exactly what motherhood is.

With all the ups and downs, there is a great need for a mom to be encouraged and seen. The simple, “I love you, mommy,” or “Thanks, mom,” goes far to help her move from feeling invisible to loved.

To celebrate the great blessing a mother is, we will unpack a few attributes of God that can encourage any mom. Whether she’s living her best life and feeling like this is the greatest season she’s had, or if she’s struggling to find her footing and purpose, allow these truths to be a balm to soothe the soul of all the moms, from expectant moms to grandmoms. Share it with a mom that you love and let her know she is seen and known by you and by our mighty God.

1. God Is Faithful

1. God Is Faithful

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Every day holds unique challenges, but God is always faithful. Some days start in the middle of the night with waking and feeding or with nightmares and fears. So often, everyone turns to mom for help and comfort.

It’s a great comfort to know that every morning God is faithful to show up for the tired, weary mom. He is near. He isn’t scared away by her burdens or caught off guard by the lack of sleep. He shows up daily. He cares. He is faithful.

2. God Is Patient

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

God’s patience is beyond measure. He does not rush, withdraw, or give up on His people. And in the everyday moments of motherhood like repeated questions, long days, and stretched limits, we catch glimpses of that divine patience at work in a mom’s life.

3. God Is Loving

3. God Is Loving

“The Lord appeared to him from far away. ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you’” (Jeremiah 31:3).

God is love. His love reaches beyond all the mistakes, mishaps, and misunderstandings in every home. We see His love shine through a mom’s unwavering ability to give love even when she has had a hard day. God loves her no matter what. Even when she slips up. She doesn’t have to be perfect, only God is. His love for her never changes.

4. God Is Good

“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!” (Psalm 27:13).

God is always good, even in the chaos. And He graciously opens a mother’s eyes to see His goodness in the laughter, the mess, and the ordinary moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Maybe it’s the glass-half-full kind of mentality, but somehow she finds the beauty in the mess and appreciates the time together even when it seems like chaos. God is faithful to reveal His goodness in the middle of busy schedules, piles of laundry, and sticky kitchen counters.

5. God Is Merciful

5. God Is Merciful

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

Motherhood has a way of revealing just how much mercy we need. There are moments of regret, moments we wish we could redo, and moments when we simply fall short. But God is never short on mercy. His supply does not run dry. His grace is always enough.

We do not earn mercy and grace. God freely gives it. And as a mom receives that mercy, she begins to reflect it. Not perfectly, but faithfully. The same mercy God pours over her life begins to flow into her home through forgiveness, patience, and gentle correction. Mom doesn’t lead from perfection. She leads from a place of being daily covered in the mercy of God.

6. God Is All-Knowing

“You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar” (Psalm 139:2).

God knows every detail of our lives. No matter how difficult things are or how many struggles fill up the home, God isn’t worried. He stays fully in the know. He cares.

Sometimes we need the reminder that God is with us when we sit down and when we get up. God knows our thoughts, from the good to the complicated. He is all-knowing and that can give mom the hope she needs on the hard days.

7. God Is Kind

7. God Is Kind

“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:4-5).

God’s kindness is not based on performance. It flows from who He is. He does not love moms more on good days or less on difficult ones. His kindness meets mom right in the middle of her need, not because she deserves it, but because that is who He is.

8. God Is Gentle

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29).

God is not harsh or demanding with His children, He is gentle. He does not drive us harder when we are weary; He draws us closer. His heart is lowly and kind, inviting us to come and find true rest in Him.

Rest might be the one thing mom needs today. She doesn’t always get rest when she needs it. She pushes hard daily to meet everyone’s needs. She’s learning about God’s gentleness and trying to rest when she can. As she comes to Him, His gentleness begins to shape her even on the days when rest feels out of reach.

9. God Is Peace

9. God Is Peace

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27).

God does not just offer peace, He is peace. His peace is not dependent on quiet circumstances or calm days. It is available even in the middle of chaos. God’s peace is present and He meets moms in the noise, settles anxious thoughts, and reminds her that He is in control. She doesn’t have to create peace. She can receive the peace God offers.

10. God Is All-Powerful

“Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you” (Jeremiah 32:17).

God created moms. What a beautiful creation and an amazing way to display His love, gentleness, mercy, and peace. While moms joke about seeing and knowing all to young children, God truly does see and know everything.

He placed each mom exactly where He wants her, not because she is everything her family needs, but because He is, and He faithfully supplies what she lacks. While she will sometimes feel like she’s not enough, she knows God is. And her dependence on Him is where her strength is found. She is truly a gift from God; the same God whose attributes we see at work in a mother’s life is the One who sustains her every step of the way.
