On Dec. 12, 2025, a grand opening was held in Parksley, Va., for the Innovation Cottages, an energy efficient, offsite-built home project built in collaboration between Champion Homes and iUnit Communities.

“The Innovation Cottages are a marquee example of the incredible capacity of offsite-built homes to be an energy efficient, leading-edge housing solution,” said Champion Homes Director of Business Development Bryan Phelan. “When forward-thinking collaborators put their heads together, amazing things happen.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house was held on Friday, December 12, in Parksley, Va. Representatives from Virginia Housing, Accomack County officials, the Mayor of Parksley and leaders from Champion Homes were in attendance.

“I can’t tell you how excited the Town of Parksley is to be a part of this incredible endeavor,” said Mayor of Parksley Frank Russell.

Champion Homes designed ENERGY STAR ® Certified custom floorplans for the three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes. The first home is a 1,200-square-foot modular floorplan built to the International Residential Code (IRC) at Champion’s Liverpool, Pa., manufacturing facility. The second home is a 1,387-square-foot manufactured floorplan built to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Renewal (HUD) code at the company’s Claysburg, Pa., facility.

Both houses have features often found in site-built homes including front porches and 7/12 roof pitches, elevating curb appeal and enhancing aesthetic comparison to the local housing stock.

iUnit Communities plans to place the homes on the market in early 2026 and educate potential buyers about their energy efficient capabilities.

The cottages were funded in part by the Virgina Housing Innovation Grant Program, which supports breakthroughs in both housing affordability and housing services for residents in Virginia, primarily serving low- and moderate-income households.

“The Innovation Cottages help us to continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with offsite construction as we build energy efficient housing,” said iUnit Communities Founder Brice Leconte. “Champion has been a collaborator with iUnit in this journey to build energy efficient, offsite-built homes for over 10 years, and we appreciate their continued support of this joint mission.”
