CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep 3, 2025--

Power Insights today announced the release of its 2025 North American Electric Transmission Market Forecast, providing a comprehensive, data-driven analysis of transmission grid investments spanning 2015 through 2029.

The latest edition of the forecast draws on a highly quantitative methodology and incorporates detailed insights from more than 200 utilities, 60 holding companies, over 30 transmission project developers, as well as renewable energy owners and developers.

According to the report, the North American electric transmission market grew 10% from 2023 to 2024, driven largely by increased capital spending to address the growing interconnection needs of both load centers and renewable generators. Additional growth factors included asset renewal requirements, adoption of new technologies, and inflationary impacts on nominal investment levels.

Key Highlights of the 2025 Forecast:

  • Historical and Forecasted Spend (2015–2029): Analysis by segment, including investor-owned electric utilities, municipal and government-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, Canadian utilities, transmission developers, and renewable generation developers.
  • Policy Impacts: Examination of how federal policy changes are shaping renewable energy development and grid planning.
  • Economic Factors: Insights on the role of tariffs, supply chain dynamics, labor shortages, and inflation in influencing capital spend.
  • Utility-Level Analysis: Rankings and expenditures across substations, poles, towers, underground lines, overhead conductors, and overhead maintenance.
  • Project Forecasts: Detailed projections of new and upgraded substations and overhead line projects by voltage class.

“Load growth is doing what renewables could not seem to do; accelerate the planning and construction of significant electric grid infrastructure in the U.S.” said Jean Rollins, one of the principal authors. “Our 2025 Forecast provides stakeholders with the actionable insights needed to navigate this complex and changing landscape.”
