HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 17, 2026--

As manufacturers in the United States face growing challenges in recruiting engineering talent, Vietnam-based engineering services provider IDEA Group has announced the expansion of its U.S. operations with a new office in Houston, Texas. The expansion aims to support companies seeking flexible engineering capacity for product design and development.

Recent hiring data for mechanical engineering roles in the U.S highlights structural challenges in the engineering labor market.

The average national salary for mechanical engineering positions is approximately $105,609 per year, or about $50.8 per hour, reflecting strong demand for engineering talent. At the same time, 56% of positions are full-time roles, requiring companies to commit to permanent hiring even when workloads fluctuate between projects.

For manufacturers managing multiple development cycles, these conditions can make it difficult to scale engineering resources when projects arise or timelines accelerate.

In response, companies are increasingly exploring distributed engineering models, where external engineering teams provide support for mechanical design, CAD modeling, and technical documentation.

“Manufacturers face pressure to accelerate product development while managing engineering costs,’ said an IDEA Group representative. “By combining our U.S. presence in Houston with offshore engineering teams in Vietnam, we help manufacturers access experienced CAD engineering support while potentially improving efficiency by up to 50%compared with traditional in-house hiring.

IDEA Group’s expansion in Houston introduces two service models aimed at supporting manufacturers facing engineering capacity constraints.

The first model provides machine design support through offshore engineering teams, allowing clients to extending clients’ internal design departments with additional resources. These teams support tasks such as industrial machinery design, 3D CAD modeling, sheet metal engineering, reverse engineering, and design documentation using major CAD platforms.

The company also offers contract CAD engineers who collaborate with teams remotely, in hybrid setups, or onsite depending on project needs. This approach allows manufacturers to scale engineering resources more flexibly without long recruitment cycles.
